Another season has wrapped up and I have a few thoughts to share.
First and foremost, THANK YOU to everyone who has supported the association over the past season. It takes considerable dedication from event coordinators and volunteers, Coaches, Assistants, Managers, Officials, Directors and Executive to put the kids on the ice. We could not provide the program we do without your help.
I have been in and out of the rinks all season watching games and practices and if I had to summarize our athletes in one word it would be “tenacious”. From the youngest in Active Start to the oldest in U19 (and our Ringette 101 gang), I am struck by the commitment, enthusiasm and effort they put into the sport. I have seen a steady stream of smiles, cheers, fist bumps, a few tears and the odd frown throughout the year. They have all grown in both technical and game skills and I look forward to seeing them put the skills developed this season into practice next season.
I have had people share what they like, what they don’t, what they find frustrating, and what they would improve with me over the season. I sincerely appreciate those thoughts and comments as it helps me steer the association to make it better for our athletes.
With that in mind, there are some initiatives being developed and evaluated by Ringette Canada and Ringette Alberta that will have implications for the sport over the next couple of seasons. I would encourage parents to read the updates coming from RAB over the next couple of months. I will be looking at arranging some parent information/dialog sessions with the affected groups in the next month to share some of the ideas being proposed. Keep in mind that parents can register for and attend the RAB AGM/conference taking place in Red Deer on May 5/6 if they wish.
I would also like to ask everyone to take a few minutes and fill out a coaching survey/feedback form as this helps the coaches improve their skills.
We will continue to keep you informed via email over the next few months as to registration, 3on3 in August and evaluations.
I hope you have a great spring and summer and hopefully we will see you around town and back at the rink in August.
Once again, thanks everyone.
